Disable Password Caching in Office 2000 (All Windows) Category: Home > Software > Microsoft Office
Office 2000 normally attempts to cache user authentication information when establishing connections with external data sources. Because the password is saved into a text file, this creates a potential security problem. Open your registry and find the key below. Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'DisablePwdCaching' using the settings below. Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.
Note: This primarily affects new database queries used to retrieve data from external sources into Microsoft Excel.
Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. We cannot guarantee that problems resulting from modifications to the registry can be solved. Use the information provided at your own risk.
